EXACTLY WHERE YOU NEED TO BE
What is CBD?
The cannabis plant has an extremely complex molecular make up, comprised of over 100 different compounds, each with their own unique profile. The prohibitive laws that have existed around cannabis for the past hundred years have acted as a roadblock to research. Consequently, we are still learning a great deal about the cannabis plant today.
There are two particular compounds that we do have a more substantial grasp of in comparison to others. These also happen to be the two most active compounds retained within the cannabis plant: tetrahydrocannabinol and cannabidiol.
More commonly known as THC and CBD, these two compounds are often confused with one another, but are actually very different. THC is a psychoactive compound that causes the ‘high’ typically associated with cannabis in popular culture. CBD, on the other hand, is a non-psychoactive compound. This means that while it will not make the user high, it retains a great number of the health benefits that cannabis provides.
Why Use CBD Skin Care Products?
There is no doubt that one of the main reasons behind many people choosing to use CBD is to improve the condition of their skin. It is well known for its healing, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It can be used for a wide variety of reasons, as outlined below.
CBD Can Help to Combat Acne
Acne is the most common skin condition. We all know how uncomfortable acne-prone skin can be at the best of times, however when you experience a breakout, things get even worse and even your mental health can be impacted.
It is well documented that acne occurs as a result of excess sebum production. This waxy substance is produced by cells called sebocytes. A notable study published in 2014 found that CBD can inhibit the production of excessive sebum in sebocytes.
Furthermore, it is not too late to give CBD a try if you have had acne in the past which has left scars behind. A novel study conducted in 2019 found that ‘CBD-enriched ointment significantly improved’ the appearance of cutaneous scars amongst other inflammatory skin diseases.
CBD Fights Skin Ageing and Wrinkles
It feels as though a new anti-ageing phenomenon hits the news on a daily basis nowadays. It is well documented that oxidative stress can contribute towards the inevitable process of ageing. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidative properties of CBD have also been researched in depth, such as in the 2019 study ‘Antioxidative and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Cannabidiol’ by Atalay, Jarocka-Karpowicz and Skrzydlewska.
Consequently, research indicates that CBD should help to delay the process of ageing in your skin by battling free-radical damage, reducing inflammation and oxidative stress.
CBD Can Relieve Dryness and Itching
Common, yet irritating skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis typically cause severe itching, dryness and redness. This can be incredibly frustrating, painful and often causes anxiety for the individual who is suffering.
The soothing, skin calming and skin normalising effects of CBD can help to minimise these issues and reduce the severity of the aforementioned symptoms. One particular study carried out in 2019 declared that CBD is effective in treating dry and itchy skin. The study states that CBD is ‘involved in the maintenance of skin homeostasis, barrier formation and regeneration’.
We also know that the anti-inflammatory properties referenced above play a part in the combatting of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. This was concluded from a recent study conducted in 2019. That said, the authors also highlighted the requirement for further human studies in order to draw definitive conclusions.
What alternatives are there to CBD Moisturiser?
Cannacares offer a wide range of alternative CBD skin care products if CBD moisturiser is not for you. These products include:

Is CBD Moisturiser legal?
CBD has been legal in the UK since 2018. While many cannabinoids are restricted and thus illegal in the UK, CBD is not one of these. In order to maintain its legal status, any CBD product must be “derived from an industrial hemp strain that is EU-approved” or comes from outside of the EU. The legal THC limit for CBD products is 0.2% in the UK. If you are ever in any doubt, please do not hesitate to seek a Certificate of Analysis (CoA). This is a document produced by an independent third-party laboratory that confirms the exact ingredients of the product.
Endometriosis gives me a lot of pelvic pain and I’ve had several operations to remove the tissue that causes this. When I first used the CBD Patches I was surprised that I could feel so much difference. Although it doesn’t necessarily stop it completely, it relaxes my muscles so that I can cope with the pain better and it also reduces a lot of my stress and anxiety which often makes it worse.
I’m quite a laid back person so I was open to trying the products, especially as the price point was so affordable. I was recommended Cannacares so I was excited to see if they actually could help. There have been times where I’ve been on Endo forums and people are desperate for helpful resources, advice and personal experiences with products like CBD. I think it’s great that Cannacares are producing resources like this that people use to take responsibility for their wellbeing.
