How to Calculate the Right Dosage for Me?

There are many factors that must be accounted for when deciding upon your dose of CBD. It is always advisable to speak to your physician if you have any worries about using CBD.

If your physician advises on what dose to take it is wise to listen to them. This is particularly important if you are taking a prescription medicine.

Starting with a smaller dose of CBD and gradually building up the dose is a sensible strategy. By doing this you can find what works best for you and then optimise the use of CBD to get the best effect. Starting with between 20mg and 40mg of CBD as your daily dose is a good idea. You can gradually increase the dose by 10mg per week until you feel you have found your optimal daily dose.

It is always a good idea to track your symptoms and how much CBD you are taking each day. There are symptom tracking apps that can assist with this or you can do it the old-fashioned way and use a diary/calendar.

Starting with a lower dosage of CBD and gradually increasing the dose until you reach the desired effect, is often the best way to start using CBD. The perfect CBD dosage for you depends on many factors, such as your body chemistry, body weight, the symptoms you are treating and the concentration of the CBD product you are using.

CBD Dosage for Anxiety

An effective dose of CBD for treating anxiety or stress is often a moderate to strong dose of CBD. However, there are many instances of anxiety sufferers experiencing positive effects at smaller doses. It is wise to start with a lower daily dose and then gradually increase your daily intake of CBD until you find what works for you. For anxiety, it is advisable to use CBD in the morning and then again, a few more times throughout the day. It typically takes CBD oil about 30 – 60 minutes to take effect.

CBD Dosage for Pain

CBD is commonly used for chronic pain and other localised pains. It can often be tempting to use excessive amounts of CBD when you are in severe pain. However, it is always sensible to start with a lower dose and gradually increase it until you find a point where you feel that CBD is having an impact on the pain.

When you find a dose that causes the pain to subside, next time you have a flare up you can look to replicate the dose.

CBD Dosage for Sleep

CBD can be an effective sleep aid. To feel the full impact as CBD as a sleep aid, it may be best to take CBD throughout the day and then take a larger dose just before you go to bed.It is also ok to take CBD again if you wake up in the middle of the night to help you get back to sleep.

CBD Dosage for Depression

CBD can help to alleviate pain and anxiety which are often triggers for falling into depression.

However, again it is wise to start off with a small dose of CBD for the first week of use and then increase it to a level where you feel that the CBD is having a positive impact.

What factors affect CBD dosage?

There are several integral factors that determine what your optimal dose of CBD is. While the below factors are important, they do not definitively determine your ideal daily dose. This is best achieved by experimentation.

One crucial factor is your sex. Early research indicates that there is a slight difference between how CBD effects men and women. It is believed that the behavioural and hormonal differences between the sexes could cause different experiences of using CBD.

Cannabinoids often show a more profound physical effect in men but a more profound behavioural effect on women. This discovery is not yet definitive and a great deal more research needs to be carried out.

Height and weight also have a profound impact on how CBD effects the user. Simply put, the more you weigh the more CBD you will have to consume to have a beneficial effect.

CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system. However, the CBD will have to travel throughout your body first and the rate at which the CBD is metabolised by your body is believed to differ between those who are heavier than others.

Age is also a factor that can affect how much CBD you should be taking. The older you are, the more time the CBD you consume will take to have an impact. Younger people often have faster metabolisms which means that the CBD is absorbed by the body at a quicker rate meaning that the CBD takes effect faster.

How does this Calculator work?

The daily dose of CBD you decide to take is unique to every individual. The dose is often dependent on your weight and how strong an effect you want to feel from the CBD. The dosage calculator enables you to ascertain what dose of CBD is sensible to start with and how you can increase this dose over time. When you discover which dose works for you, that is the one to stick to. If you experience any negative side effects you have probably reached your upper limit.

How to calculate your CBD dose by weight and dosage:

Low Strength – 2mg per 10kg of body weight
Medium Strength – 7mg per 10kg of body weight
High Strength – 13mg per 10kg of body weight

It is crucial to note that these measurements are in pure CBD not CBD oil.

For instance, for a starter low dose. If you weigh 70kg, you should take 14mg of CBD to start with.

What strength of CBD should I use?

  • Anxiety – Medium to High strength
  • Arthritis – Medium to High strength
  • Cancer Related Symptoms – High Strength to Pharmaceutical Grade
  • Chronic Pain – Medium to High strength
  • IBD – Medium to High strength
  • General Health – Low strength
  • Epilepsy – High Strength to Pharmaceutical Grade
  • Muscle Recovery – Low to Medium strength
  • Nausea – Low to Medium strength
  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) – Low to Medium strength
  • Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) – Low to High strength
  • Insomnia – Medium to High strength
  • Weight loss – Low to Medium strength

Step by Step to Finding the Right CBD Dosage for You

The best way to find your ideal dose of CBD is to use a CBD dose calculator to identify what the low strength dose is for your body type and weight. From the initial low dose starting point you can then gradually increase the dose of CBD each day until you find easing and relief from your symptoms. If you ever experience any side effects such as grogginess or fatigue, it may be wise to reduce your next dose of CBD at a level where you didn’t feel any negative effects.

It is advisable to never start with a high dose of CBD if it is your first-time using CBD.

The first vital step is to find your optimal CBD dose. The best way to do this is to use the following equation:

[Body Weight in KG] x [Desired Strength (0.2, 0.7, 1.3 mg)] = [Dose in Mg CBD]

As an example. If you weight 70kg. You multiply your weight (70kg) by the desired dose of 0.2mg which is equal to 14mg of CBD for your starting dose. Then depending on the potency of the CBD oil you are using; you can decide how much to take.

The best way to work out how much CBD oil to take is to find out the CBD in mg/ml. This can be done by using the below formula:

[CBD in Mg] / [Bottle Size in ML] = [CBD in MG/ML]

For instance, if you use a CBD oil with 3000mg per bottle and the size of the bottle is 30ml.

[3000mg] / [30ml] = 100mg/ml CBD

This dictates how potent the CBD oil is and makes it easier for you to determine how much of the CBD you should use. There are other products such as sprays or capsules which have a standardised dose, making it easier to measure your daily dose of CBD.

Why am I not feeling the Effects of CBD?

CBD has many positive effects on people, and many uses it to improve their health. CBD impacts everyone differently and the effects may be more prominent in some people. If you elect to use CBD but do not achieve the desired effects, there are several factors that may be the root cause as to why you had an unsuccessful experience with CBD.

Incorrect Dose – one of the more integral aspects to using CBD is getting the dosage correct. It is best to read the label of the product you are using to understand how much you should be taking. If you follow these instructions correctly but do not have a good experience, it may be worth investigating further. If you do not take enough CBD, it is likely that you will not feel the full benefit of using CBD.

e patient – CBD can often take over an hour to take full effect. If you write off the CBD too early, you could be making an error. CBD is a dietary supplement, so it often doesn’t provide immediate effects. However, if you are patient and use CBD over a two-week period you will begin to feel the full effects and resulting benefits of using CBD. It is important to increase the dose you are taking if you feel that the CBD is not having a noticeable effect.

Bioavailability of the product – Using CBD oil may mean that the amount of CBD that is absorbed by the body isn’t as high as it should be. Using CBD products such as CBD patches, CBD sprays or CBD vapes can lead to more CBD being absorbed and ultimately having a better effect.

Can you take too much CBD?

Several reviews into the safety and possible side effects of CBD have discovered that the continuous use of CBD, even in doses as high as 1500mg per day are very well tolerated by human beings. If you would like to read more about this subject, read our comprehensive article on taking too much CBD

An experiment that was carried out on mice in 2019 raised some safety concerns about CBD’s prospective capability to damage the liver and interact with other medicines. It is always best to speak to your doctor about CBD if you are taking prescription medication. There are also a handful of reasonably uncommon, minor side effects to be aware of:

  • Fatigue
  • Weight Loss
  • Diarrhoea
  • Weight Gain
  • Change in Appetite
  • Dry Mouth

What should I look for when choosing a CBD brand?

There are many things to consider when selecting a CBD brand. Choosing a reputable brand means that the product you use will definitely be safe and be of a high quality. It also means that the product you will be using is compliant and legal.

Assessing the percentage of CBD that is in a product is also a good indicator of how strong the CBD product is.
