Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a well renowned substance that can optimise your health in numerous ways. Vitamin D helps to regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate within your body. These nutrients are needed to keep bones, muscles and your teeth healthy. A deficiency of vitamin D can result in bone deformities such as rickets in children and bone pain caused by a condition named osteomalacia in grown adults.

Many doctors are also recommending that consideration is given to taking vitamin D to help fight off the Coronavirus. The NHS recommends that taking 10 micrograms of vitamin D on a daily basis can help keep your bones and muscles healthy. Vitamin D is naturally acquired by direct sunlight, but with many people isolating it, the amount of sunlight people are exposed to may be lower than usual. If you are indoors all day you are probably not getting enough sunlight, so it is probably advisable to take some form of Vitamin D supplement. There have been some recent news reports about vitamin D reducing the risk of coronavirus. This is unfortunately not substantiated by sufficient evidence and this claim cannot be supported by the appropriate evidence.

What are good sources of Vitamin D?

From early spring to the end of September, most people in the UK should be able to get all the vitamin D they need from direct sunlight. The body creates vitamin D from sunlight on the skin when you are outdoors. However, between October and early spring, most people will not get enough vitamin D from direct sunlight.

The human body creates vitamin D from direct sunlight on the skin when outside. Vitamin D can also be created by consuming a small number of specific foods. Foods like oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and herring provide vitamin D, as do red meat and eggs.

Cow’s milk is not a good source of vitamin D as it is not fortified like it is in many other countries around the world.

How Long Does CBD Take to Work?

Like any medicine or supplement it takes time for CBD to start working and to take effect. For CBD to begin working it has to be absorbed into the bloodstream, once it is in the bloodstream it can then be distributed throughout the endocannabinoid system where the cannabinoid receptors within CBD can bind to CB1 and CB2 receptors in the body. The interactions between these receptors is the catalyst for most of the positive effects of CBD.

So, how long does this absorption process take?

The answer is very much dependent on which way you use CBD. The various delivery options are;

  • Sublingual (Tincture Oils, Sprays, Wafers)
  • Oral (Capsules, Tables, Gummies, Drinks)
  • Topical (Cosmetics, Creams, Balms, Lotions)
  • Transdermal (Patches)
  • Inhalation (Vapes, Inhalers)

Sublingual

Examples of CBD sublingual delivery methods are CBD Tincture Oils where you drop the CBD oil underneath your tongue, oral CBD sprays where you spray the CBD oil under your tongue and innovative technology like sublingual wafers.

When utilising sublingual delivery methods, the CBD is absorbed via the salivary glands to varicose veins underneath the tongue.

When using a high-quality CBD sublingual product, you should expect to begin to feel the effect of the CBD after 15-30 minutes. With the CBD being absorbed by the veins underneath your tongue it is important to hold the CBD under your tongue rather than swallowing it. The effect of using a CBD oil or CBD spray will be limited if you swallow the oil instead of holding it under your tongue.

How CBD Balm can Help Psoriasis Symptoms

    Jul 14, 2021 Alex Harber

Millions of people around the world have to live with psoriasis as part of their daily lives. Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease, and it is chronic in its nature. Those who suffer with psoriasis often have an overactive immune system which causes skin cells to grow faster than they should. This results in the skin becoming red, scaly and extremely painful patches of skin begin to build up. The areas of skin that are impacted by psoriasis are itchy, disruptive and quite unseemly.

Alta Flora & Cannacares Announce Partnership to Offer Symptom Tracking for CBD Consumers

    Jul 09, 2021 Lewis Olden

Within the burgeoning UK cannabis industry there is a tremendous need to build both clinical and real-world evidence to support the efficacy of cannabinoid treatments. Existing cannabis-based medications offer little intellectual property protection due to the difficulty of patenting a specific indication of cannabis. The device used to administer the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) is the only protection cannabis and pharmaceutical companies can have. Therefore, undertaking a clinical trial with a medication that cannot be patented and can be easily copied, does not make for an attractive proposition for companies in the cannabis space.
